It will be his only performance in the Canary Islands and he will close the national tour with a spectacular performance of all the hits of his acclaimed musical career.
The Puerto Rican artist Ricky Martin, one of the most desired stars by festivals around the world, has closed with the Isla Bonita Love Festival his only performance in the Canary Islands, as part of the European tour “Ricky Martin Live 2024”. He will share the bill with Martin Garrix to offer the Canary Islands, Spanish and European audiences one of the most powerful tandems of artists among all the festivals in the country, for next summer.
Ricky will perform on 27 July in Puerto de Tazacorte, after many years in the Canary Islands, after conquering generations with his music, his dances and his ability to give his all on stage. He will do so in the “biggest social event of the archipelago” promoted for 9 years by the public company Sodepal of the Cabildo Insular de La Palma. The music for diversity is the culmination of a week of social events in which the island champions and makes visible the defence of equality and LGTBI+ rights.
Since his last two completely sold out performances in the summer of 2023, the Spanish public, through their social networks, has been asking the popular artist Ricky Martin to return to Spain and, finally today they officially announce 14 concert dates in his pop format, which will take place in several cities during the month of July 2024, to perform his long list of hits accompanied by his band and dancers, under a great production and staging.
The series of concerts will begin on the 3rd of July at the Icónica Fest in Seville, and will then travel to other cities including Murcia, Granada, Cádiz, Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, Marbella and La Palma as the final stop of the tour.
The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, stressed this Thursday at the presentation of this year’s headliners that “we are in luck, we have a great line-up at Love”, while at the same time he had words of recognition for the former minister Jordi Pérez Camacho “for his courage in setting it up”. He also praised the work of producer Maikel Chacón and Sodepal.
Rodríguez did not forget that this “top level macro-concert that positions La Palma outside the Canary Islands” is “preceded by a social week, which focuses on gender identity, becoming an inclusive space, highlighting and defending collective and individual freedoms”.
The CEO of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo, highlighted the important social and economic impact of this event for the island. It is not an expense, it is an investment, said the councillor, adding that “the people of La Palma are aware of equality and it is the responsibility of the public administrations to favour this path, something that is highlighted in this project, which also constitutes a local economic stimulus, generating employment and promoting the creative industry of La Palma”.
The Mayor of Tazacorte, Manuel González, pointed out that the final touch of the Isla Bonita Love Festival places the municipality as the epicentre of the concerts, with all that this entails on an economic, social and promotional level. “We are an example of equality and diversity and we continue to support this event which allows us to use the port as the best possible stage”.
Finally, the producer of the concert, Maikel Chacón, thanked the public administrations for their confidence in continuing to promote this project for another year, as well as the backing of private sponsors who trust in the event. “This is a tourist and social event endorsed by the people of La Palma, and it is also the highest rated in the Canary Islands by Promotur in relation to other events of this type”, he remarked. He pointed out that Ricky Martin “was the big one we were missing” and that Martin Garry is going to be a highlight for the young people.
The budget for this year’s festival is around one million euros, of which the Cabildo of La Palma will contribute 800,000 euros, Promotur, 100,000 euros, and the Town Hall of Tazacorte, 75,000 euros, according to the CEO of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo.
Promoting freedom
The Love Festival is a well-established event in the island’s calendar and serves as an international reference, focusing on celebrating the diversity of gender identities and expressions; the creation of an inclusive and respectful space; the defence of rights and opportunities for all people, and promotes freedom of expression and individual rights.
Under these premises, the Cabildo de La Palma, through the public company Sodepal, is working on the design of an extensive programme of activities in favour of the LGBTI collective, which as every year will end with a music festival to be held in the port of Tazacorte.
